011-STM: Basic knowledge of technical statistics

Basic knowledge of technical statistics is essential for understanding and applying established statistical methods for quality assurance in industrial production - such as capability analyses for machines, processes and measuring systems or statistical process control (SPC) using quality control charts. This seminar is therefore an important prerequisite for many other seminars.

In this seminar we will teach you the basics of technical statistics live on the PC with Q-DAS qs-STAT, as far as possible without the use of complex formulae. You do not need to know the software, on the contrary, this course is well suited as preparation for the regular ‘Handling training for machine and process capability analysis with Q-DAS qs-STAT’ (001-SW) and ‘Product and process optimisation with Q-DAS vidara/Q-DAS destra’ (035-STM). All the software points required for the training are explained directly in class. For self-taught users, the course is an excellent introduction to using the software.
Note: This seminar imparts basic knowledge of technical statistics - the processes and procedures of machine and process capability are taught in the seminars ‘Machine capability analysis - MFU’ (012-STM) and ‘Process capability analysis - PFU’ (013-STM) and are not the subject of this seminar.

The seminar is aimed at employees from all functional areas who want to learn how to use statistical methods such as machine, process or measurement system analyses, but do not yet have the necessary basic statistical knowledge.

Contents
- Fundamentals of statistical methods: What is ‘statistics’, areas of application and limitations of statistical methods, especially in technical applications
- Types of characteristics
- Graphical representations: From single value representations to summarised graphics (value progression, value stream, histogram, summation line, probability network)
- Statistical characteristics (characteristics of location: maximum, minimum, modal, mean, median of the sample and median of the population; characteristics of dispersion: range, standard deviation, quantile distance and reference dispersion width; characteristics of shape: skewness, kurtosis and excess; confidence intervals and random scattering ranges)
- Distribution models: From the normal distribution centre to absolute value, Weibull and other distributions to the Johnson transformation and mixed distribution
- Optimal model distribution (regression coefficient; neural network)
- Fundamentals of statistical test procedures (distribution tests; outlier tests; test for location and dispersion (t and F test); test for randomness)

Hardware and software
For training courses that do not take place in Heidelberg or Chemnitz, each participant must have a laptop.
The Q-DAS qs-STAT software is provided free of charge for the duration of the training course.
