The stylus is an important part of the measuring system. During the measurement, the stylus is in direct contact with the part.
Straight styli are the most common type used in the metrology industry. Depending on the application, different materials for stems and tips are available.
Ceramic styli tips are primarily used for long or heavy styli and disc styli. Due to their resistance to wear, ceramic styli are often used for scanning extremely rough surfaces, such as cast iron.
A ceramic stem is characterised by its light weight and high stiffness. Additionally, ceramic stems will break in a collision and can therefore protect sensors from damage.
