Diamond is the hardest material available for styli tips and highly wear resistant. It is perfect for scanning aluminium parts, as it does not create material build-up. Diamond styli are either solid or coated.

A tungsten carbide stem has high stiffness and less thermal expansion, compared to stainless steel.
